Onceuponatime,JadeEmperorwantedtofindaneasytocalculatetheyears.Hedecidedtoholdacompetitionbetweentheanimalsforcrossingtheriver.
很久以前，玉皇大帝想找出一種容易的方式來計算年份。他決定舉辦一場動物過河比賽。
Hesaid,"Thefirst12animalstoarriveatthefinishlinewillmakeupthenewyearscalendar".Thenewswasannouncedtoallanimals.
他說:「最先抵達的十二隻動物將成為計算年份的方式。」很快所有動物都知道這個消息。
Amongallofthem,thecatandtheratweregoodfriends.Everydaytheyplayedtogether.Theirlifewasveryhappy.
在所有動物中，貓和老鼠是好朋友。他們每天玩在一起，他們的日子過得很快樂。

在比賽那天貓說：「我怕水而且我不會游泳。」水牛說：「我看不清楚而且我方向感不好。」
