有許多人都覺得很奇怪為何原產於美國的紅耳龜竟然稱為巴西龜.牠們與巴西毫不相干.其
實台灣最早期進口的龜類確實是原產南美的巴西龜(Brazilian slider),牠們的體色外型
幾乎與紅耳龜相同,只是少了紅耳龜的紅斑.後來因為成本過高及運輸問題而被紅耳龜取代
,但名稱上就仍沿用巴西龜至今.但由於數年前台灣禁止巴西龜進口,而造成業者繁殖本土
的斑龜取代.不久巴西龜也繁殖成功而完全取代了進口.
