WDJ的年度評選是根據自定的準則來審視市面上的乾飼料，將符合其準則者列入名單中，因此，這不能算是推薦，畢竟WDJ並沒有對於名單中的乾飼料進行試吃或實質檢驗，也沒有查證其成份是否與其標示一致，自然也不可能對於評比名單中的廠商與商品具有推薦與保證的能力，讀者還是必須自行了解如何判斷飼料的品質高低以及品質與價格是否相符，而不是不經思考依其名單作為採購準則，這絕非我們連續幾年編譯WDJ 乾飼料評比的初衷。2007年WDJ評比名單中的廠商與商品都曾在美國2007年飼料含三聚氰胺的回收事件中出現，一度讓WDJ讀者及WDJ驚愕不已。
